Not good at math?
To reduce a pattern by using your photocopier, divide the size you want it to be by the size you have. For example if you want to reduce an 18" block to a 15" block, divide 15 by 18 and then multiply by 100 to get 83%. This is the setting you should use on your copier. To enlarge, divide the size you have by the size you want it to be and multiply by 100.
Ask not what your fabric can do for you, but what you can do for your fabric.
Happy Quilting

Happy St. Patrick's Day & Welcome to Spring
When doing needle turn applique, use a round wooden toothpick to turn the fabric. The roughness of the wood snags those little tiny, short, fibers and rolls that fabric right under. Then you can do the needlework. I call this my magic tool, I wouldn’t be without it.
Asking a quilter to mend, is like asking Picasso to paint your garage!

Valentines Day at the Quilt Shop
Happy Belated Valentines Day!!
White Vinegar
It is useful for quilting. I pre_wash all of my fabrics. One cup of vinegar added to the wash water will help set colors.
It also helps when pressing. Keep some vinegar in a spray bottle. If your fabric is wrinkled, give it a sprits, then press _ the wrinkles will disappear.
A sprits on the right side of a seam will also help you press that sucker flat. Yes, it makes your quilt smell like salad dressing, but the scent will dissipate over time.
Friends are like fabric … You can never have enough!

Quilt Tip for January - Reducing Patterns with Photocopier
Happy New Year!!
To reduce a pattern by using your photocopier, divide the size you want it to be by the size you have. For example if you want to reduce an 18" block to a 15" block, divide 15 by 18 and then multiply by 100 to get 83%. This is the setting you should use on your copier. Christmas Open House!

Happy Turkey Day! Quilting Tip for November!
When you are making half square triangles always sew a SCANT 1/4 inch (rather than a regular 1/4 inch) from the center diagonal line so that the fabric will have a bit more room to flip over when you press it. Most times you can cut your initial squares a FULL 1 inch larger (rather than the standard 7/8 inch) and then just trim them down to the finished size + 1/2 inch for the seams allowances.
Easier 'math' and better to be too big and trim down, than to end up being too small.
"A bed without a quilt is like a sky without stars"
Ms. Tips
Quilt Tip for November - Labels in the binding
Sew your label into the seam that sews on the binding. This way, there are only two sides to hand sew and it is more difficult to for the label to be removed.
Also, put your initials on the seam allowance of the binding. That way, if the quilt disappears and later reappears without the label, you can prove it is yours by simply undoing a few hand stitches.

News from the Log Cabin
A very special Thank You to all who participated in our first annual “Redbud Run” Shop Hop!
It was a very busy 3 days but a rewarding one for all 6 shops. It was wonderful to see a lot of my regular customers as well as new ones. I have had many calls and e-mails that expressed their joys of the Shop Hop experience. Thanks to everyone for all the kind words!
The 2 winners of The Log Cabin door prizes are:
• Judith Ann Sawyer of Sapulpa, OK
• Kathie Floyd of Inola, OK
And the Grand Prize Winner of the “Redbud Run” is Connie Guthrie of Pryor, OK. Connie won a sewing machine and several other wonderful prizes.
For all of you that ordered finishing kits from The Log Cabin, they can be picked up at any time. Hope you have a wonderful time sewing them! I’m hoping one of you will win that grand prize. Good Luck!
And yes we are already planning for next year!!
As many of you know Mary Ellen will be moving to Virginia in August to live closer to her family, she will be dearly missed by many especially me. Please wish her the best next time you come in.
It’s hard to believe that I have started my fourth year in business. You know that old saying “Time fly’s when you are having fun.”
Here it is almost 100 degrees outside and my shop is filling up with fall and Christmas fabrics, but I guess it is time to get started on them. Christmas is just around the corner. Some lines are selling fast!

The book “More Loose Change” will be released in October. This book is written by two of our local quilters Le Ann Weaver of Claremore and Claudia Plett of Inola. It is a sequel to their first book, best-selling, “Loose Change: Quilts from Nickels, Dimes, & FQ’s”, now in its fourth printing.

Because the last 4 “Block of the Month’s” are all gone, many of you requested more! So we have started 2 new ones. “Come on a my House” by Miss Rosie’s will be beginning in August. Only a few left! Starting in September will be “The Queen and her Court” by Wing and a Prayer Designs.
1st Annual Redbud Quilt Run

Welcome to the first annual Redbud Quilt Run! Just like the Oklahoma Land Run, you’ll find yourself rushing to quilt shops, and racing to win the prize…
Here’s how it works-
Go to each of the six shops listed below sometime between July 8 – 10. Pick up a Shop Hop Passport at your first stop. Each shop will have a “charm” for you when you make a purchase. Each shop will have 2 different block kits for $3.95 each and 2 fabric strip kits for $1.95 each. Each shop will have finishing kits available for sale.
You can enter the contests 3 different ways.
If you go to all six shops, you can register to win. (Any of the shops can take your completely stamped passport, but you must present all 6 charms to be eligible.)
Once you have purchased all of your blocks kits and a finishing kit from one of the shops, make your quilt! If you present your quilt, finished and bound, to any of the shops by December 24, 2010, you can register for a bigger prize. (The kit choices can be seen online at www.brendasredbarn.com. Each shop will have their design display)
If you want to play even harder, just purchase the fabric strips from each shop instead of the block kits. Then, it’s up to you to design your own quilt! You can add any additional fabrics, but it must include the initial 24 pieces.
It must be a minimum of 48 X 60, and no larger than a queen size. Bring your finished quilt in to any of the shops by December 24, 2010, and you’ll pay a $10.00 entry fee to register to win a Grand Prize worth over $350!!
